Jaguar was originally founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company, making motorcycle sidecars before moving into car manufacturing, leading to SS Cars Ltd. The name was changed to Jaguar after World War II to avoid the unpalatable connotations of the SS initials. The first car was produced in 1935, the SS Jaguar 2.5 litre saloon.
